CoSORT Announces Support for Acucorp's Vision File System
Direct Sorting and Transformation of ACUCOBOL-GT Vision
Index File Format
MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2003--CoSORT /
Innovative Routines International (IRI), Inc. now supports
Acucorp Inc.'s Vision file system, part of the
ACUCOBOL-GT® development suite, on Windows®
and Solaris™ platforms -- with other UNIX flavors to
follow shortly. This support enables ACUCOBOL-GT users to
sort Vision files, convert a Vision file to another output
file format, create a Vision file from input in another format,
and combine these and other data manipulation operations in
the same I/O pass -- all using CoSORT's Sort Control Language
(SortCL) or SortCL_routine (API).
CoSORT is able to provide this support as a result of its membership
in Acucorp's Complementary Technology Program, an annual program
for third-party tool vendors who develop and market software
solutions that complement Acucorp's extend(R) family of technologies.
"By combining the unique features of our Vision file system
with CoSORT's well-known sorting and manipulation capabilities,
we can offer companies the benefit of a high-performance data
processing suite for file sorting, transformation, and reporting,"
says Drake Coker, Acucorp's Co-Founder and Chief Scientist.
CoSORT's support of the Vision file system means that ACUCOBOL-GT
users can work with data housed in legacy applications, and
bridge their legacy COBOL systems with relational databases
and data warehouses. "With CoSORT, these developers can
produce highly-formatted and readable (detail and summary) reports
based on Vision file data," explains David Friedland, CoSORT
/ IRI's Vice President of Business Development. CoSORT's support
of the Vision file system also provides Acucorp's customers
with "better options for mainframe sort migrations to open
systems, accelerated database and data warehousing, and sorting
capabilities beyond the COBOL sort verb," he adds. CoSORT
users can process data within or outside of COBOL programs --
in batch scripts based originally on JCL.
